Abstract

School gardens connect learners to the natural world, local food systems, and provide the skills, knowledge, and inspiration to address the sustainability challenges of tomorrow.  School gardens awaken curiosity, inspire wonder, produce joy, and most importantly have the power to change the way we feel about ourselves and our abilities to tackle the grand challenges of tomorrow. Moses Thompson, who began using gardens with K-12 learners therapeutically, will be talking about his work as the director of the University of Arizona School Garden Workshop, a collaborative partnership with the Tucson Unified School District which supports over 60 school gardens in Southern Arizona.
